A course exception is the use of an alternative or nearly equivalent course in place of a course required in a course of study.
- Graduate and undergraduate students wishing to substitute coursework in a program, major, minor or certificate should contact the Program Director or Department Chair in the school of their declared program for approval.
- Core course exceptions are approved by the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
If approved, the department will send the substitution petition through Degree Works to the Registrar’s Office for processing. The substitution will be available on the student’s Degree Works evaluation.
- Course substitutions must be approved one semester before graduation or completion of certificate.
- Course substitutions may not exceed 25% of the credit hours required for graduation or completion. If substitutions exceed 25% of the credit hours required for a program, major or minor, an Individualized course of study will be required. Certificates are not eligible for Individualized study.
