Melissa Harshman
Biography
Melissa Harshman received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1992. She has taught at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia since 1993. Harshman has exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad. She was awarded a University of Georgia Senior Faculty Research Grant in 2019 titled “Explorations in Papermaking”. She was one of the inaugural Arts Lab Fellowship recipients from the University of Georgia for 2022/23 focusing on papermaking wall installations. In 2022 she was awarded the Denbo Fellowship at Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center in Hyattsville, Maryland focusing on handmade paper. She displayed work at the Impact 12 International Printmaking Conference in Bristol, England in September of 2022. Her work was recently on display at the Hunderton Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey in “Press +”, “Rebel/Re-Belle” at the Asheville Museum of Art in Asheville, North Carolina, “When Print Meets Paper” at the Robert C. Williams Papermaking Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, and “ArtFields 2023” in Lake City, South Carolina. Current exhibitions include “Print +: Sameness and Otherness in Contemporary Printmedia”, at MOCA Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida, “Visual Elegy” at the Free Library of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a solo exhibition at the PaperWorkers Local in Birmingham, Alabama.
Marilyn Propp
Biography
Raised in Upstate New York, Chicago-based for thirty years, and now living in Kenosha, Wisconsin, visual artist Marilyn Propp holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She attended Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, Brooklyn Museum Art School, Provincetown Workshop, and the San Francisco Art Institute’s pre-MFA program. In 1990 she co-founded Anchor Graphics, Chicago, a non-profit printshop which is now Anchor Press, Paper & Print in Milwaukee. Propp has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Loyola University, Columbia College Chicago, and Carthage College. Among her Visiting Artist /Residencies are the University of Iowa, Iowa City; Universidad Veracruzana, Xalapa, Mexico; Cill Rialaig, Ireland; and Jentel, Wyoming. Exhibitions include the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking, Atlanta; Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs, Long Island City, NY; Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington; Galeria AP, Universidad Veracruzana, Xalapa, Mexico; Columbia University School of the Arts, NYC; DePaul Art Museum, Chicago; Bellevue Arts Museum, WA; Trout Museum of Art, Appleton, WI; Monmouth Museum, NJ; and Artists Image Resource (AIR), Pittsburg, PA. Propp has received numerous grants and awards including the Racine Art Museum Fellowship, the Illinois Arts Council Finalist Award and an Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Grant. Her work is among national, international and private collections, including the DePaul Art Museum, Chicago; the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, Evanston; Summer Palace, Saudi Arabia; Amnesty International, NYC; and Hallmark Collection and the AT&T Collection, Kansas City. Her ongoing work, Notes from the Sea, explores relief prints/collage on handmade pigmented paper, and reflects the clash/coexistence between the industrial and the natural worlds, where industrial debris, machine parts, and marine life are entangled or morph into one another.
Rina Yoon
Biography
Rina Yoon is a Korean born visual artist and a professor of Fine Art at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Yoon received BFA in Fine Art from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and MFA in Printmaking from Washington University in St. Louis. Yoon focuses on non-traditional printmaking methods including large scale prints, paper installations, multi-media work combining video and sculptural elements with printmaking. Driven by curiosity and sensitivity to materials, Yoon often embraces slow processes to allow time for reflection and meditation. Yoon’s work has been widely exhibited in the United States as well as South Korea, China, India, Italy and Poland. Yoon’s work is part of permanent collections at Museum of Wisconsin Art, Alverno College, Gyodong Museum of Art, Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Daeseung Hanji Gallery in South Korea, Murray State University, and Southern Graphics International.

About the CUW Art Gallery
Over 30 years ago, the CUW Art Gallery was founded with the hope of educating, challenging, and inspiring the students, faculty, staff, and community of CUW as well as the public through exposure to the vast world of art. Our mission is to encourage appreciation and understanding of art and its role in society through direct engagement with original works of art. Combining fresh, object-based scholarship with broad accessibility, the CUW Art Gallery aims to provoke and affirm accepted meanings of art objects and to suggest new ones to its patrons. We aspire to excite the imagination, and present opportunities for our patrons to look into the study of art and culture.
The goals of the CUW Art Gallery are to:
- Bring excellent contemporary and historical art to the CUW campus community
- Reflect the diversity of the university and Southeastern Wisconsin community
- Connect the university and the public through relevant art and cultural programs
- Support student, emerging and established artists by providing opportunities for the creation and exhibition of cutting edge visual art
- Development of self-knowledge inherent in artistic activity for the personal growth and development of the CUW Gallery students, faculty, staff and patrons
